PRECAUTIONS BEFORE BUYING BIRDS…………………..

  • Emu farming is simple but not easy.
  • Everybody will not be able to make it.
  • Emu farming is not getting rich quick SCHEMES.
  • Full time emu farmers are found more successful.
  • Emu farming one must take as serious business and not just as farming.
  • You can not fail in emu farming with support.
  • Failure will be personal, right from buying birds to closing down of business.
  • Therefore everyone entering this business should be very careful.
  • You must take right knowledge before buying birds.
  • Take the training.

FARMERS MUST THINK BEFORE INVESTING IN EMU FARMING……..

  • How long they are in this industry?
  • What is seller’s credential in emu industry?
  • How many birds at the seller’s farm?
  • Are those birds are from his farm?
  • Are you buying birds from trader?
  • Those are not stolen birds? Or not from stolen eggs?
  • Are you buying from frustrated farmer?
  • What is their ratio of egg to the breeder?
  • The birds are straight line, just sexed or from different bloodline?
  • Can they give you DNA certificate? For an extra cost.
  • Where is the market for end products?
  • Are they dealing in by-product? Meat & oil?
  • Are they selling meat? Where? How long?
  • Are they selling oil? Where? How much?
  • Whether selling only birds or giving full package?
  • Their last 5 years graph?
  • Do they have the vision in this industry?
  • Check all the records at ground level? Not in computer!
  • Who has the market?
  • What is your vision about this industry?
  • What is your future plan? (At least for next 10 years)
  • If your supplier is unable to show the plan? Make one for you!
  • What if big bird died?
  • Can you recover the cost if at all you want to close your farm?

There is the difference between straight line bird, sexed chicks and different bloodline birds. Do not buy straight line bird at the price of different bloodline birds. You can buy straight-line birds, if you wish to slaughter the birds.

When we give the training to OWNERS 10% do not start emu farming for good, 90% are doing very good in emu farming. We can not talk about right or wrong but we can educate all farmers and enlighten them with education. Beware of the traders!!!
Measurement of our achievements is not how much money we have made, it is how many successful farmers, we have created and how many farmers have close down the farms!

Getting Started in Emu Farming?
The new farmer must think and must take full knowledge about emu farming including the end of the emu farming cycle and then they should enter in to this industry. Any live stock when human try to grow in captivity, it has to go for slaughtering.
Birds can be purchased at any stage of development, and these decisions should be based on a buyer's capacity and experience with livestock.

  1. Purchasing Eggs & Hatch: This is probably the cheapest way to start, but very risky and requires cash for eggs & incubation equipment, and must take training of hatchery management.
  2. A Day Old Chicks: This is also one of the cheapest way to start, but mortality rates are higher at this stage.
  3. Three to Six Months Chicks: This is one the best choice for the new farmers. As the farmer will grow with birds and it is relatively easy to handle.
  4. Six Months to A Year Old Birds: This depends on the date of purchase. It is easy to rear.
  5. One to 2 Years Birds: These birds are expensive and waiting period is shortened. But buyer must take the training of handling the birds.
  6. Breeder Birds: This is also good choice with immediate returns. You must ask for the track record of the eggs. And also reason for selling the birds.
  7. Investment Opportunity in Emu Farming: Some people do not have farms and do not wish to own individual birds or do not have time to raise birds. We can help you to sort out this problem.

The important thing to remember when purchasing any age of birds is to have a future plan with the expected returns on your investments. You must take in to consideration the number of eggs, hatch ratio, survivability, and lastly the selling price for birds not eggs.
